I’ll leave it to others to honour Robin Williams with words about his genius, skill, impact, and the implications of his death. For me, the news was particularly sad and poignant coming close on the back of the death of Dr Peter Spitzer, founder of the Humour Foundation and the Clown Doctors. Spitzer is said to have partially modelled his work on that of Patch Adams, played by Williams in the 1998 movie.
This week I’ve also been reading a series of student blogs about childhood memories of television for the UOW subject ‘BCM240: Media, Audience, Place’. Williams features strongly in my own childhood (indeed, adulthood) mediascape, and I’ve put together a collage of three of my favourite movies in which he starred.
